Starting Secondary School

At the end of Year 5 and the start of Year 6, it is time for parents to consider what secondary school they would like their child to attend.

Many secondary school's hold open days or open evenings in the summer term for Year 5 children. It is worthwhile parents visiting all schools they are considering for their child so they have an opportunity to see the school environment and ask any questions to help parents make an informed decision for their child. The secondary schools publish these events on their website and we will add them to the school newsletter when we receive them.

Children from Locking feed into many different secondary schools. The links to their websites are below.

In the summer term of Year 6, the secondary schools organise transition events for the children that will be moving to their school in the September. These are different for each secondary but can include

  • visits from the school staff to Locking to meet the children
  • transition days to the new school in Term 6
  • For those children with additional needs or concerns, we can organise additional visit to the secondary school in liaison with parents/carers.

If you have any questions about your child moving on to secondary school, please contact your child's class teacher in the first instance.
